THE DESIGN: Colonial architecture. Clean, Simple & Stylish. Oriental Heritage.
The main building design is a perfect blend of the influences of Colonial architecture as seen in Asia and simple but stylish contemporary design. The interior design is directed by our personal passion towards a timeless charm of classic styled furniture and a cozy touch of the Oriental and Thainess. As similarly important, we integrate the natural elements, i.e light, views of nature and cheerful energy, into the whole design in order to make our residence a truly luxury escape with a touch of nature around.
This small, boutique hotel is designed to be an escape for travelers who look for authenticity, privacy, simplicity but affordable luxury at the same time. All these qualities are tangibly reflected through the hotel’s larger rooms, higher ceilings, terrazzo bathtub, spacious balconies, teak furniture and elegant decors that echo the classical splendor, the contemporary charms and the modern practicality alike.
Located on a back street close to the Bridge and the mighty River Kwai in a forest-like surrounding, the House is a perfect base to explore the story of the Death Railway through its alive remnants. From here, it is easy to go out and discover more about the region’s splendid wilderness in some of its seven national parks such as Erawan and Than Lod. An easy stroll through a local village can also be made by crossing a bridge across the scenic River Kwai. But if you feel like taking a rest, just simply enjoy nature at your hand reach – having a glimpse of various bird species in the hotel’s peaceful garden, listening to their healing sounds, and just leaving the world behind!
Thai Hospitality & Local Management Team of Diverse Experiences:
The Journey House is run by a dedicated small team of local Thai people living in our neighbourhood. We are proud to be part of this small village community that has been in existence for some hundreds of years. We have a ‘sense of belonging’ here and we always feel secured. We hope you do too while you are staying with us!
Our Environmental Concerns and Practices:
Running an accommodation, either small or big, consumes more resources than normal. By being aware of this, we would like to urge you to help us reduce the use of the Earth’s crucial resources while you are staying with us. Currently, we have turned our environmental concerns into practice by initiating and implementing our energy & water saving campaigns. Our guests can take part in these measures very easily without any effort. Funds gained from our in-house measures will be allocated to support the community-based environmental activities. Of course, we will keep you informed, if you like, about the progress we have made in the long run.
Our Wildlife Residents:
The Journey House and its surroundings have been a refuge for various kinds of wildlife species. There are more than 20 species of residential birds. This ranges from a very tiny one like a sunbird tail to woodpecker, and from bulbuls to Little Cameron and king fisher. In the cool season, we have some immigrant visitors stopping by such as Bronze Drongo. In the dry hot season, a few breeding species like bulbuls visit us and give our garden more life in a less abundant time of year.
Our water lily pond, with a splendid Naga statue in the centre, is a permanent sanctuary of toads and frogs that are fairy noisy when it rains! Tree lizards in their splendid colours also add more colours to our garden but a little bit rare to be seen. Gecko or Tuk Gae is a great indicator of our healthy environment, common to hear especially at night when they come out to prey on insects.
The Art Space & More:
We make our hotel an art gallery and we are united with local artists to create an art space at the hotel and in Kanchanaburi town. We together have a dream to create an art society where people of all ages can enjoy having an exchange with like-minded people and expressing their own creativities in various art forms. Once you are our guest, we can ensure that you will become totally relaxed within the peaceful and positive energy created by nature and art work around.
